'Whale-Roads' (2022)
In the summer of 2022, I was a lucky enough to be a part of UCSB's Coastal Media Project, in which film students work together in groups of four to create an environmental documentary approximately 15 minutes long. Over the course of nine weeks, I worked with a group of three other very talented students to create Whale-Roads. At first glance, Whale-Roads is about what goes on beneath the surface, but it is just as much a comment on what occurs every day on land. By exploring the intersection between commercialization and marine protection, Whale-Roads provides insight into a past where humans have exploited whales for profit, as well as offers hope for a future in which whales and humans can coexist peacefully. Whale-Roads is an Official Selection of both the 2023 Santa Barbara International Film Festival & the 2023 San Luis Obispo International Film Festival.
Role(s): Editor & Cinematographer: I was the sole editor on this project and I also operated one of the cameras for most of our interviews when I was not busy editing.
Equipment Used: Camera: Sony FX6 Full Frame Cinema Camera. Lens: (24-105mm) We were also able to use our instructor Ian Kellett's drone for arial footage as well as drone footage from the Condor Express's drone operator, not to mention NOAA gave us access to some beautiful underwater footage.
